Ac adapter lights turn off when plugged in?

Question:

I was working on my laptop and suddenly it turned off. The ac adapter and battery were in.  Now it won't turn on.  The lights on the ac adapter (original) are off. If I plug the adapter to the wall the adapter lights turn on, but when I plug it into the laptop the adapter lights turn off immediately. Of course the laptop still turned off.
Same thing happens when I remove the battery, the ac adapter lights will turn off.
The laptop won't turn on with just the battery in neither.
So the battery is OK and the adapter is OK.. (I have no other battery or adapter to check with).

So the motherboard is necessarily finished?

Unswer:

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help in identifying the problem.
- Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again.
- If this will not work, do test the AC adapter if it's working properly. Remove the battery and power the laptop with just the AC adapter connected and see if it will boot up or not. Do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if it will work or not.
- Proceed with reseating the RAM's if trying a different AC adapter will not work, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure everything is seated properly.
- If all these will not work the problem is the motherboard itself.

Laptop not charging, connection is loose?

Question:

My input for my laptop charger seems to be not grabbing the plug completely to start the charge. I have to push in extremely hard to get the charge to begin, and as soon as I let go, the charge stops. The connector is very loose inside laptop.

Unswer:

Try a new adapter first -- Genuine or OEM ac adapter, not third party. If that doesn't solve the problem, on most newer models the DC jack is replaceable - replace the jack.

Battery not charging,ac power adapter failure

Common problems why laptop AC power adapters are unable to charge a laptop battery are:

1.---A dead ID chip.
2.---High temperature protection, need cool the AC power adapter or reduce the CPU load
3.---Overload protection or adapter failure

For 3) there are three probable causes:

1.Short circuit on the motherboard causing excessive power draw.
2.The CPU and/or laptop battery draws too much power
3.Laptop power adapter is dying

In case the laptop power adapter has a history of buzzing, hissing or cuts out randomly it’s probably because of 3). Replacement might be the best solution.

If the laptop power adapter starts beeping or the green / blue power LED goes off – it probably going into overload protection, which is case 2). Try and reduce the CPU load or remove the laptop battery.

If removing the laptop battery doesn’t help, the motherboard draws all power as in case 1). First thing to check in this case is DC Jack. If not, the motherboard circuitry around the DC power jack.

If the laptop still runs of the battery, most likely the problem can be narrowed down to the battery charging circuitry on the motherboard.
